Behavior is proof of character. This is a saying I have used many times during my years of teaching fifth graders. Think about it. No one is able to know what we are thinking (thank God!), and so we are judged on our actions, the words we use, and how we treat others. How we act is evidence of who we are.
And guess what? We choose what we say. We decide how to behave, even if it’s habit, and even our reactions to situations are in our control. Therefore, we are responsible for the ‘essence of us.’ I wholeheartedly understand many have been dealt more difficult circumstances than others, but ultimately, each individual is at the helm of steering the boat. The beauty of thinking about these ideas through this growth-mindset lens, even for a minute, is that if we want to change, we realize we can! How we choose to live is who we become. Behavior is proof of character.
